Dr. Emily E. Abbott grew up in the metro-Detroit area. She has a master’s degree in Medical Science from Wayne State University and went to medical school in Florida at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then returned to Michigan to complete her General Surgery Residency at Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak, a level one-trauma center. While there, she discovered her love for Hand Surgery. After graduating from residency she was a Clinical Instructor in Hand Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania. In those two years she gained extensive training in arthritic conditions, Dupuytren’s Contracture, nerve, vascular and microsurgery and all upper extremity pathology. She also saw a wide variety of pediatric patients including congenital cases at Shriners Hospital for Children.
Dr. Abbott is excited to return home to Michigan to work and raise her family. When she is not in clinic or surgery, she spends her time with her husband and three children, hiking, riding bikes and exploring the outdoors.
