Dr. Jourdan Gard was born and raised in the small town of Abilene, Texas. Since the age of 4 she has aspired to become a surgeon, which can be seen in polaroids taken of her performing “surgeries” on stuffed animals. Her dedication to surgery and patient care led her to volunteer at local hospitals and soon she found a niche in orthopedic surgery. She left home to complete her bachelor of science degree at Clemson University where she graduated cum laude. After college, she stayed on the east coast for medical school at Campbell University, earning her Doctor of Osteopathic medicine degree with honors. Her love of sports further promoted her interest in orthopedic surgery and she found herself in the great state of Michigan where she completed orthopedic surgery residency at Beaumont Hospital Farmington Hills and Dearborn. Throughout her residency she was drawn to the complexity of hand surgery and also became interested in microsurgery. Dr. Gard completed the Mary S. Stern hand surgery fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, which is consistently one of the most highly touted programs in the country. While in hand surgery fellowship, she garnered a love for pediatric hand surgery under the mentorship of Drs. Kevin Little and Roger Cornwall at the #1 ranked children’s hospital in the country. The Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati is one of the only centers in the country specializing in thoracic outlet syndrome as well as complex brachial plexus birth injuries, so Dr. Gard has participated in many of these complex surgical cases. She also volunteered on a mission trip to India where she took care of pediatric trauma cases as well as congenital abnormalities.
Dr. Gard is very excited to be returning to the area with her husband and long haired dachshund. She strives to provide the highest level of care to all of her patients and takes an honest approach to medicine, treating her patients like friends. She particularly enjoys treating complex nerve injuries, sports injuries of the hand and wrist, pediatric/adult hand trauma as well as many arthritic conditions.
During her free time, Dr. Gard enjoys watching all sporting events but especially those including Clemson (Go Tigers!). She and her husband also enjoy traveling, hiking and anything involving the great outdoors.
