Paul M. Al-Attar, M.D.

Dr. Paul Al-Attar is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr. Paul Al-Attar is a fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon. He grew up in the Metro-Detroit area and attended the University of Michigan, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience. He then proceeded to medical school at the University of Michigan, where he obtained a dual degree, earning his master’s in clinical research along with his medical degree. Following medical school, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident. After residency, Dr. Al-Attar completed his fellowship training in spine surgery at the renowned Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. There, he received advanced training in complex as well as minimally invasive spine surgery, working with some of the nation’s leading orthopedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons. He has brought his training back to the Metro-Detroit area to serve the community in which he was raised.

Dr. Al-Attar’s clinical interests include degenerative conditions of the neck and back, neck and back pain, disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, sciatica/radiculopathy, myelopathy, adult scoliosis, tumor, trauma and fractures. His surgical interests comprise all facets of spine surgery, which include open and minimally invasive techniques, complex revision, and robotic surgery. Dr. Al-Attar has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and has presented his research at national and international conferences. He is committed to staying up to date on the latest research to give his patients the most optimal treatment. Dr. Al-Attar emphasizes the importance of non-operative treatment to manage spine conditions, using surgery only after exhausting conservative treatment options.

In his free time, Dr. Al-Attar enjoys playing soccer, following U of M and Detroit sports, traveling, learning history, and spending time with family and friends.
