Dr. Matthew Yousif is an Orthopedic Surgeon with additional training in Sports Medicine and shoulder surgery. He specializes in injuries and illnesses of the Shoulder, Hip and Knee, providing services that many other orthopedic surgeons do not.
A native to Metro- Detroit, Dr. Yousif completed his medical school education at Michigan State University. He then went on to complete his residency in Orthopedic Surgery through the Beaumont Health System in 2019; primarily practicing at the Dearborn, Farmington and Royal Oak Campuses serving as Chief Orthopedic Surgery Resident. Post residency, Dr. Yousif completed his fellowship in Sports Orthopedic Surgery at the prestigious new IVY Strong Memorial Hospital. There, his fellowship training focused on shoulder, hip and knee injuries, treating patients of all ages from elderly to professional and adolescent athletes. His fellowship also included training in hip arthroscopies, a procedure many other orthopedic surgeons do not have training to perform.
Dr. Yousif also served as faculty for MSUCOM medical students. He has given podium presentations on the national level. He has multiple publications in his field especially involving the knee and shoulder.
Some of the conditions Dr. Yousif treats in office include:
- Tendon Injuries (biceps tendon, pectoralis tendon, Achilles tendon injuries)
- Osteoarthritis (hip, knee and shoulder)
- Hip, Knee and Shoulder Arthroscopies
- Rotator Cuff Injuries
- ACL Tears
- Meniscus Tears
- Tennis and Golfers Elbow
- Total Joint Replacements (hip, knee and shoulder)
Dr. Yousif was drawn to the sports medicine specialty because it allows him to treat patients of all ages and complexity levels; from young amateur and professional athletes, to the elderly recreational golfers. In practice, he looks at the body as a whole picture, tailoring treatment for the individual patient and exhausting all conservative care before resorting to surgery when appropriate. Additionally, his fellowship training gave him the tools for biologic treatment including PRP and stem cell treatment when appropriate.
In his free time, Dr. Yousif enjoys golfing, watching Detroit sports and spending time with his family.
